LAGOS’ MUCH-LOVED CHINESE RESTAURANT ZENITH WATER MARGIN TO REOPEN
Lagos, Nigeria, 2 February 2011 – The Zenith Hotel Group today announces the long-awaited reopening of its much-loved Chinese restaurant, Zenith Water Margin. The restaurant has undergone a complete no-expense-spared renovation and will be opening its doors to customers on 12th February 2011. The Surulere eatery will provide an exquisite fine dining experience with food cooked by coveted Chinese chefs served in exclusive surroundings.
Nothing has been spared for the makeover of Zenith’s historic venue. Decadent furnishings and interiors and an over arching “modern Oriental” theme work together to create the perfect ambiance. The ground floor boasts a large yet intimate dining space that seats up to 100 diners and two bars, all decorated in line with the sleek modern theme accentuated with Chinese artefacts. Zenith’s first floor now boasts a new exclusive VIP area called Zen Lounge. The first floor lounge is luxuriously fitted out with wide, deep velvet covered club chairs and high backed love seats perfect for chilling out or watching a movie or presentation on the huge screen. With its own dedicated private cocktail bar and double doors opening up to a roof terrace it makes the perfect venue for private parties, corporate meetings and the most romantic of occasions.
Ufuoma Koloko, daughter of one of the original founding board members says, “I am delighted to finally open Zenith’s doors to our customers and to welcome new diners. So many people have such fond memories of it here. I’ve met people who have said it is where their parents used to enjoy dates together, or they remember eating here most weekends as a child”.
Ufuoma has hand-picked chefs from China as part of the group’s mission to offer authentic Chinese cuisine, made using traditional methods but with a modern (and Nigerian) twist. The menu has received its own makeover featuring little surprises like the wasabi nuts, best enjoyed with Zenith Water Margin’s signature cocktail – the Surlere Sling. Diners can also expect popular favourites such as butterfly king prawns in batter and sizzling beef with green pepper. Zenith’s locally recruited staff have been specially trained to help customers, new and old, navigate their way through the delicious dishes and indulge in a truly enjoyable dining experience. If you can’t stop to enjoy the mouth watering cuisine in the main restaurant you can grab a take-away from Zen Xpress – the brand new take away outlet.
Zenith Water Margin Chinese Restaurant was the first Nigerian-owned authentic Chinese restaurant to be opened in Lagos in 1986. For the best part of the decade that followed, Zenith, as it was known then, remained the leading restaurant of its kind in the region. It was visited by Lagotians from the highest echelons of society and they continued to return for the unparalleled service, excellent cuisine and exquisite surroundings. It was this high regard from its patrons that led to Zenith’s international recognition – winning it a deserved place on the British Times newspaper’s List of Top 100 restaurants around the world.
Proprietor Ufuoma Koloko has returned to Nigeria from London to be the fresh new face of Zenith Water Margin, following in her father and uncles’ footsteps. As well as making a personal investment, Ufuoma, a first class graduate of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University attracted the multi-million naira investment of a Warri Based Oil, Gas and Engineering firm to fund Zenith’s transformation. With over 10 years experience in business management and corporate communications in the UK working for blue chip firms including Accenture, Vodafone, and news agency Thomson Reuters, Ufuoma is well-placed to return Zenith to its former glory and take it into a fabulous future.
Zenith Water Margin’s re-birth is in keeping with the revival of Adeniran Ogusanya Street in Surulere where the restaurant is located. Most major banks and a number of large corporate companies have located there, including South African owned Shoprite and the new Surulere Shopping Plaza. Adeniran Ogunsanya and the rest of Surulere have received further improvement, with road expansion, new guttering and street lights in the planning the vibrant area will soon have received a total facelift.
